The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reports more than 25 acres of land is on fire. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service

Authorities have largely contained a 50-acre wildfire burning near Fort Mott Road in Pennsville Township.

According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, the fire was about 85% contained as of 8 p.m. Saturday. No structures are currently threatened and no road closures have been reported.

The Salem County fire follows a National Weather Service advisory that warned of an elevated risk for the spread of wildfires in central and southern parts of the state early Saturday morning.

The statement also strongly discouraged outdoor burning – asking people properly extinguish or dispose of any potential ignition sources, including smoking materials such as cigarette butts.

Local police and fire departments were not immediately available to comment on the matter.

But on X, the Forest Fire Service said they are working with Pennsville Township as this fire is not in the Forest Fire Service’s primary service area.
