4 dead pit bulls discarded on N.J. highway showed signs of dogfighting, police say

Maintenance workers found four dead dogs abandoned on the Garden State Parkway last week, officials said.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority workers discovered four “Retriever” brand dog food bags on Thursday morning near mile marker 119.4 in Aberdeen. Further inspection of the bags found that there were four deceased dogs inside, the New Jersey State Police said in a news statement.

Troopers have since determined that all four of the dogs were Pitbull mixes and that their injuries were consistent with dog fighting.

The workers recovered the bags and brought them to the turnpike authority’s Telegraph Hill Maintenance Yard before calling state police.

An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information can call the Troop D Holmdel Criminal Investigation Office at 732-441-4500 ext. 7426.
