Another N.J. brewery announces it is closing

After several large and small breweries in New Jersey shut their doors in 2024, another local tasting room has announced its closure.

Brotherton Brewing Company in Camden County announced Monday that it will soon be closing after 10 years in business, according to a social media post from the company.

“After 10 amazing years in business, Brotherton Brewing Company is coming to a close,” the post said.

Started by five friends, Brotherton opened its tasting room and production facility in Atco in 2020 after operating out of a backyard barn for the previous five years, according to the post.

The brewery’s last day of operation will be March 30 and the tasting room will remain open during regularly scheduled hours, the post said.

Brotherton is one of the many local breweries and taprooms that have closed across New Jersey in recent years.

Ark Brew Pub in Lumberton announced it was closing in late December 2024 while Alementary Brewing in Hackensack closed in early 2024 after determining the brewery had become too expensive to keep afloat.

Forgotten Boardwalk in Cherry Hill also closed its doors in early 2024 after failing to renew a lease agreement with its landlord.

Flying Fish, which also operated a taproom in Somerdale and is one of the oldest New Jersey breweries, filed for bankruptcy in 2024 after a merger with Cape May Brewing fell through.

The company was eventually purchased out of bankruptcy by Guilford Hall Brewery in Baltimore.
