Camden police officer stabbed in unprovoked attack, suspect in custody, cops say

A Camden police officer was stabbed in the neck Sunday evening in an unprovoked attack at Broadway and Chestnut streets while talking to another person, a police spokesperson said.

The 23-year-old officer, Joshua McKnight, was in critical but stable condition late Sunday at Cooper University Hospital, where he was taken by fellow officers following the 5:50 p.m. incident.

Richard Dennis, 38, was apprehended and will face attempted murder, aggravated assault on a police officer and related weapon possession charges, Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen said.
