Dunkin' is taking a cue from rival coffee chains, such as Starbucks, in removing upcharges for milk substitutes.

Starting March 5, milk substitutes will become standard options to customize Dunkin' drinks at no added cost to customers.

“This will allow guests visiting any Dunkin’ location to enjoy traditional dairy or alternative dairy options in any beverage without an additional charge,” a spokesperson for Dunkin' told USA Today on Thursday.

The policy change comes after the company received a lot of guest feedback on the issue, as well as a class-action lawsuit that was filed against the company in December 2024 accusing the company of discriminating against lactose-intolerant customers.

The company may have also changed its policy based on the action of one of its biggest rivals, Starbucks, which announced it would offer free non-dairy milk after the company was sued in March 2024 for charging extra for the products.
