George E. Norcross III, a formidable and long-feared Democratic powerbroker whose influence stretched across the state, was criminally indicted Monday on wide-ranging corruption charges in a scheme that officials said enabled him to illegally land millions in lucrative real estate deals in the state’s poorest city.

Also indicted were his brother Philip, his personal attorney, the former mayor of Camden and two others.
