Gateway Family YMCA recognized as top nonprofit by NJBIZ for 2024

The Gateway Family YMCA has been named a top New Jersey nonprofit organization by NJBIZ in the “Business of the Year 2024″ awards.

The Y was recognized in the category of Non-Profit Business of the Year (101+ Employees) for its outstanding accomplishments in helping the state’s business community grow and prosper.

Winners were selected by an independent panel of judges, with finalists honored at an in-person awards ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Somerset.

“We are honored to be celebrated as a finalist for the third year in a row, and recognized for the support we provide to the communities we serve,” said Melynda A. Disla, President/Chief Executive Officer of The Gateway Family YMCA. “Our Y continues to be a strong leader in community growth, service, support and digital innovation.”

The Gateway Family YMCA serves 17 neighborhoods across Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County. It provides housing and social services in Elizabeth and Plainfield, WISE Community Services, and supportive housing. Each night, the Y supports over 300 individuals, families and veterans in residential housing programs, and engages 20,000 people through programming at its six branches.

The organization works to tackle challenges such as homelessness, hunger, child care for working families, academic achievement gaps, childhood obesity, social isolation, drowning prevention, chronic disease management and specialized care for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Founded in 1900, The Gateway Family YMCA is committed to connecting all people to their potential, purpose and each other. It focuses on empowering youth, improving health and well-being, and inspiring action in communities. The Y brings together people from diverse backgrounds to ensure everyone can reach their full potential with dignity.
