“General Hospital” has announced a casting shakeup one month after the season 62 premiere.

“Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of [Jack] Brennan,” a spokesperson for the show told Soap Opera Digest on Monday, Feb. 3. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Mesure’s last appearance on the show aired on Thursday, Jan. 30. His replacement, Chris McKenna of “One Life to Live,” will take over the role on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

“‘General Hospital’ looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role,” the spokesperson said.

McKenna reacted to the news via Instagram on Monday.

“Starting tomorrow on General Hospital — Brennan’s got a brand new bag. #GH,” he wrote.

McKenna’s costar Laura Wright, who has played Carly Corinthos since 2005, showed her support via her Instagram Story.

“Welcome to Port Charles @chrislmckenna,” she captioned a photo of the pair on set.

Ahead of Mesure’s exit, he admitted that he had some reservations about joining the “General Hospital” cast in 2023.

“I’ll be honest about it, I thought, ‘I’m an old dog. I’m not sure if I can learn any new tricks! I’m not sure if I can adapt to the huge amount of dialogue that these fantastic actors on shows like ‘General Hospital’ can learn. I’m not sure if I can suddenly be a leading man again at the age of 53,’” he told Soap Opera Digest in July 2024. “For 28 years, I came from a single camera film background where you can only do eight, nine, 10 pages a day, [while at ‘General Hospital’] it’s no secret that they do 10 times that every day!”

Mesure, who originated the role of Jack Brennan, added that after reading opposite the “superb” Wright, he felt excited about the show.

“[She was] such a gracious host in the way that she ran that chemistry read. I thought, ‘Oh, I think I really want to work with her,’” he recalled. “I’m really surprised at how much fun this has been, because I was so apprehensive about the workload. I was apprehensive about the pressure and the schedule and so forth, but I’ve had an absolute ball every single day I’ve been there.”

Mesure’s previous credits include “Once Upon a Time” and “Gotham Knights.”

“General Hospital” airs on ABC weekdays at 3 p.m. EST. Episodes can be streamed on Hulu the next day.
