Iconic U.K. singer-songwriter Phil Collins has shut the door on making new music.
The former lead singer and drummer, 74, spoke to MOJO Magazine and noted his ongoing health issues have stopped his ability to do live performances and thus diluted his desire to create new songs.
“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” Collins said. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore,” he continued. “The thing is, I’ve been sick. I mean, very sick.”
Collins has been suffering from health issues since 2007 when he dislocated a vertebrae in his neck. Due to that injury, the eight-time Grammy winner could no longer hold drumsticks properly without experiencing pain.
He also has type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed with drop-foot, as revealed in the documentary, "Phil Collins: Drummer First,” The singer toured one last time with Genesis in 2022 but had to perform while sitting on a stool while his son Nicholas took over on drums. After the tour’s conclusion in March 2022, Collins officially retired from playing the instrument.
