Police officers wearing bulletproof vests and holding weapons guarded former President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course Sunday in a beefed-up security detail as Trump returned to New Jersey after surviving an apparent assassination attempt hours earlier.
Meanwhile, state Republican officials said they are still trying to make sense of Saturday’s shooting but will press forward with plans to attend the party’s national convention in Milwaukee this week, albeit with added safety precautions. Trump is slated to formally become the GOP presidential nominee at the gathering.
