Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was out of the lineup on Monday, missing his third consecutive spring training game due to right knee soreness.
Nimmo made his Grapefruit League debut on Friday and felt the soreness on Saturday.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Monday that trainers are “not too concerned” about the issue.
“He complained a little bit of knee soreness,” Mendoza said. “Low level of concern. The plan was for him to get some at-bats yesterday, but obviously he didn’t do that. He wasn’t gonna play today. He’s scheduled to play tomorrow, but if we need to take advantage of that extra -- he’s going through the workout today.
Nimmo, who dealt with plantar fasciitis last season that’s lingered, has been slowly building up his speed before running 100%. He began game play on Friday to test out the foot, but it was the knee that gave him trouble.
“I’m not overly concerned,” Nimmo said, via the New York Post. “In fact, today was really good, a really positive day. I’m really positive going forward with this, but I also know that it’s not 100% — I got to take it day by day.”
Last season, Nimmo’s .224 batting average and .727 OPS were down from .274 and .829 in 2023, respectively, but Nimmo recorded a career-high 90 RBIs. In 13 postseason games, Nimmo went 11-for-50 (.220) with a double and seven walks for a .608 OPS.
