NJ Transit CEO commits to Glassboro-Camden light rail despite opposition

The new CEO of NJ Transit promised this week to move forward with pre-construction of the proposed Glassboro-to-Camden light-rail line.

This comes despite ballot referendums opposing the rail project in five of the 14 towns the train will travel through, and promises of more referendums to come.

“Investments like these are a once in a century opportunity to deliver on a vision that the state needs,” Kris Kolluri, NJ Transit President & CEO, said this week at a forum hosted by the Southern New Jersey Development Council, according to a statement. “Advancing these projects is crucial for the economic growth of our region and state. Ensuring we build out the Eds and Meds corridor, and as businesses grow and locate in this part of the state, a robust system that rivals that of the north is needed because it matters to our economy.”
