N.J. wants to send more nurses to visit newborns and parents at home — for free

As part of his final state budget proposal, Gov. Phil Murphy wants to spend nearly $36 million to continue and expand New Jersey’s statewide nurse home visitation program to six more counties next year.

The visits are part of the state’s Family Connects NJ program, offering free support for newborns and their families within two weeks of their deliveries.

“We have already provided thousands of in-home nurse visitations to families across our state, so we can catch complications early, and in the process, literally save lives,” Murphy said Tuesday in his budget address at the Statehouse in Trenton.
