Republicans were seeking to paint the New Jersey Legislature a little more red in Tuesday’s elections. Instead, Democrats made it a deeper shade of blue with a dominating Election Day that followed a heated campaign season.

With all 120 seats topping the ballot, Democrats held on to their 10-seat majority in the state Senate and picked up five more seats — for a 12-seat advantage — in the state Assembly.
