Rutgers' adversity-filled season came to an end in the first round of the Big Ten women’s tournament on Wednesday evening.
The Scarlet Knights fell to a hot-shooting Nebraska team, 84-60, at Gainbridge FieldHouse in Indianapolis.
The Huskers knocked down 13, 3-pointers and shot 55% from the floor while Rutgers shot a dismal 36.5% on the evening.
Senior Destiny Adams led the Scarlet Knights with 25 points and 10 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the year. She also went 13-of-13 from the free throw line.
Rutgers wrapped up its 2024-25 campaign with an overall record of 11-19.
“Playing in the Big Ten tournament was such an amazing opportunity” Rutgers freshman Zachara Perkins said in a postgame press conference. “I loved everything about it. The atmosphere, the city, everything. I loved it all.
“Playing with my team, I was very grateful for that. Coming back next year, I’m very excited for what’s to come. I know we have bigger things in store and I am very proud of my team. I know we’re going to come back next year stronger and better.”
Big Ten postseason honorees
Three Rutgers players were recognized in the Big Ten women’s basketball postseason honors.
Adams garnered All-Big Ten Second Team honors (Coaches and Media) for the second consecutive season. She ranks seventh in the conference with 17.6 points per game.
Freshman Kiyomi McMiller made the Honorable Mention (Media) list. She missed the last six games of the regular season and Wednesday’s tournament game. She did not appear on the bench with the team in Indianapolis.
McMiller averaged 18.7 points per game and scored 30-plus points on three occasions. She last suited up for Rutgers on Feb. 6 against Indiana.
When asked for updates on the freshman’s status during her absence, Washington repeatedly said that McMiller was not feeling 100% and that when she was 100%, she would be back.
Graduate student Awa Sidibe was named the Rutgers women’s basketball Sportsmanship Honoree.
