Bob Dylan fans crowded around the object of their affection in Paterson Tuesday: Timothée Chalamet.
The members of the crowd, outfitted in 1960s attire, were on set for the upcoming movie “A Complete Unknown.”
Chalamet, 28, stars as young Bob Dylan in the film from director James Mangold (”Ford v. Ferrari,” “Cop Land”).
The Searchlight Pictures movie is filming in New Jersey through June. On Friday night, “A Complete Unknown” is scheduled to film at Church Square Park in Hoboken, per a note from a location assistant working on the film.
Chalamet (”Dune: Part Two,” “Wonka”) wasn’t the only big star on set this week.

Elle Fanning (”The Great”), who co-stars with Chalamet in “A Complete Unknown,” filmed scenes with him in Paterson.
Fanning, 26, reportedly plays a character based on Suze Rotolo.
Rotolo, who dated Dylan in the 1960s, appears with him on the cover of his 1963 album “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.”

The movie, which Mangold wrote with Jay Cocks (”Gangs of New York”), focuses on Dylan’s rise from teen folk enthusiast to star in the ’60s.
As NJ Advance Media previously reported, the movie is filming all across New Jersey.
In March, the Chalamet-Mangold film (both are producers) came to the Miss America Diner in Jersey City.

Besides various locations in North Jersey, “A Complete Unknown” is set to film in Cape May.
An open casting call linked to the film (though it gives a different decoy movie title) asks for New Jersey locals to serve as extras in Cape May scenes depicting a 1960s music festival.
Those scenes, which will be filmed in May, likely depict the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, where Dylan first went “electric” by playing an electric guitar onstage, ruffling some feathers in the folk scene.

Besides Chalamet and Fanning, the cast of “A Complete Unknown” includes Oscar nominee Edward Norton as folk icon Pete Seeger.
Monica Barbaro (”Top Gun: Maverick”) plays fellow folk legend Joan Baez, who had a two-year relationship with Dylan.
There are also Jersey actors in the film’s ensemble — Glen Rock’s Charlie Tahan (”Ozark”) and Old Tappan’s P.J. Byrne (”Babylon”).

Boyd Holbrook (”Logan”), Dan Fogler (the “Fantastic Beasts” movies) and Scoot McNairy (”12 Years a Slave”) are also in the cast.
So are Will Harrison (”Daisy Jones & the Six”), Eli Brown (”Pretty Little Liars”) and blues singer Big Bill Morganfield, son of blues legend Muddy Waters.
Prior to filming in New Jersey, Mangold and Chalamet filmed in Manhattan, including outside the Chelsea Hotel, where Dylan stayed.

Before he was a household name, Dylan traveled from his home state of Minnesota to New York to see his folk hero Woody Guthrie.
Dylan visited Guthrie, who was suffering from Huntington’s disease, at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County.
The full cast of “A Complete Unknown” includes James Austin Johnson (”Saturday Night Live”), Nick Pupo (”Halt and Catch Fire”), Laura Kariuki (”The Wonder Years”), Eric Berryman (”Atlanta”), Joe Tippett (”Monarch”) and David Alan Basche (”Egg”).
