On a night in which Seton Hall honored its three outgoing seniors, the Pirates were blown out by a high-octane Creighton team.
The Bluejays hammered the Pirates, 79-61, at Prudential Center, handing The Hall (7-23, 2-17 Big East) a fifth straight loss.
“The season’s not over yet, we still got some more basketball,” Pirates coach Shaheen Holloway said.
“I know that the team is better than what we showed...I can bet that not too many teams want to play us in the [Big East Tournament], the way we play.”
Creighton -- which shot 11-of-21 from beyond the arc -- moved to 21-9, 14-5 as it attempts to lock up the No. 2 seed in the Big East Tournament behind St. John’s.
The Pirates had no answer for 7-foot-1 Ryan Kalkbrenner, a Big East Player of the Year candidate who went for 20 points and 9 rebounds against a much smaller front line.
The Hall honored Dylan Addae-Wusu, Chaunce Jenkins and Yacine Toumi before the game. In a sign of today’s NIL/transfer portal era, those players have spent a combined four years in South Orange, with Addae-Wusu the only one to have spent at least one year.
Addae-Wusu finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Toumi scored 5 points. Isaiah Coleman scored 18 points on 7-of-19 shooting and Scotty Middleton added 12 points.
Jenkins hasn’t played since Jan. 18 due to a knee injury.
“It was very emotional, just the support from the community, the crowd, the fans,” Addae-Wusu said. “I’m very grateful for my two years here.”
Freshman big man Godswill Erheriene (elbow) left the game in the first half and did not return.
Creighton opened up a 35-22 halftime lead while converting 7-of-16 from deep.
The Pirates never made a run in the second half when they trailed by as many as 22 points.
The Hall will close out the regular season at UConn on Saturday afternoon before opening play next week in the Big East Tournament.
At this point, they are the No. 10 seed and would face No. 7 Georgetown on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will air on Peacock.
If they lose that game, their season will come to a merciful end.
“Regroup, go back to the drawing board and find ourselves again,” Addae-Wusu said.
RHODEN SIGNS TWO-WAY
Former Seton Hall star Jared Rhoden has signed a Two-Way Contract with the Toronto Raptors, meaning he can split time with the big club and their G League outfit the remainder of the season.
Rhoden was named to the All-Big East First-Team in 2022.
