The Seton Hall-St. John’s game on March 1 is getting a change of venue.
Rick Pitino told NJ Advance Media that the Big East game is now expected to take place at Madison Square Garden instead of on campus at Carnesecca Arena.
Led by Seton Hall transfer Kadary Richmond, No. 9 St. John’s has won 10 straight and 16-of-17 following Friday night’s 68-62 win at No. 19 UConn.
The Hall, meantime, has lost nine in a row heading into Saturday’s home tilt with Dan Hurley and the Huskies.
On Jan. 18, Richmond went for 12 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds to help lead St. John’s to a 79-51 blowout victory over his former team in his first appearance at Prudential Center since transferring from Seton Hall last spring. It was St. John’s biggest win at Seton Hall since 1973.
The Red Storm have drawn huge crowds to the Garden for recent games against Providence and No. 11 Marquette, and will hope to have another strong turnout against a struggling Seton Hall team.
St. John’s is trending towards being a 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and could move up if they win the Big East regular season title and reach the final of the conference tournament next month.
The East Regional will be held at Prudential Center March 27 and 29 and St. John’s could potentially end up playing there.
