Newark man accused of shooting 9-year-old to remain behind bars

The Newark man accused of fatally shooting a 9-year-old boy and wounding another man will remain behind bars to face murder, attempted murder and other charges.

If released, Jesse J. Dunbar II would be a danger not only to the surviving victim and the family of the deceased boy who witnessed the attack, but the entire community, Superior Court Judge Mark S. Ali said at a detention hearing held Tuesday.

“The evidence against the defendant is not just strong, it is overwhelming,” Ali said in ordering Dunbar to remain locked up at the Essex County jail.
