On Day 1 as a college head coach, Dan Hurley hopped in his dusty rose RAV4 and sped up Interstate 95 to Connecticut. His first recruiting target was a 6-foot-1 guard who was twice named M.V.P. of Hurley’s summer basketball camp at St. Benedict’s Prep when he was a boy.
