Over half of New Jersey counties had more newly listed homes for sale last month than the previous year, the latest figures from Realtor.com showed.

A total of 76 homes were newly listed for sale in Salem County in January, an increase of about 31% since last year, the data showed.

Hunterdon County, with 64 newly listed homes in January, saw the steepest decrease, with about a 34% drop compared to the year prior.

Statewide, New Jersey’s listings were up 5.85% compared to January 2024, according to the data. The state’s median listing price for the 6,444 newly listed homes was $535,000.

According to a recent Redfin report, though homeowners are listing their properties on the market, fewer people are purchasing homes.

In the report, Charles Wheeler, a Redfin agent based in San Diego, said, “I’m seeing a lot more inventory hit the market than I have in past years.”
