The Township of Union and The Rotary Club of Union are hosting the third annual “Networking for a Cause” event on Thursday, April 10 to support Layla D’Angiolillo, a 9-year-old Washington Elementary School student recently diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma.
Mayor James Bowser emphasized how Layla’s story demonstrates the community’s strength and resilience. “Events like ‘Networking for a Cause’ show that when we come together to support one of our own, we can really make a difference,” he said. “Layla and her family are not alone–they have the entire town of Union standing behind them.”
The event, taking place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Lagar Restaurant, aims to show support for Layla and her family as they navigate her diagnosis, which is compounded by her father’s recent job loss.
Lisa Mason, Layla’s teacher at Washington Elementary, shared how the school has rallied around Layla. “I had my students write messages, send videos of jokes, and create cards, all to put a smile on Layla’s face while going through her treatments and to remind her that we were her cheerleaders,” she said. “The funds raised through this event will hopefully ease some of their financial burden, allowing them to focus on what matters most—keeping Layla healthy.”
Tickets are $30 and include food, drinks, raffle opportunities and a 50/50 draw. All proceeds will directly support Layla’s family with medical expenses and living costs. Anyone unable to attend can donate online. Visit www.uniontownship.com or follow @twpunionnj on social media for event updates and donation information.
