UPDATE: ANCHOR benefits yanked from some bank accounts due to suspected fraud attempts, N.J. says
At the start of the season for this year’s ANCHOR property benefit, some residents learned their applications would be filed automatically.
Others had to file their own applications and go through an identity verification process with ID.me.
But no one was able to check the status of their benefit. Until now.
The Treasury Department has updated its website to allow residents to see where their application stands.
Previously, users could only see the status of their 2019 and 2020 benefits. Information about the current benefit, for the 2021 tax year, wasn’t available on the lookup tool until earlier this week.
To check the status of your application, start at the state’s ANCHOR info page at nj.gov/treasury/taxation/anchor. Page down and select “Check Benefit Status,” which allows you to select the 2021, 2020 or 2019 benefit year.
You will then need to enter your Social Security number or your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) and your zip code.
Once you’re in, the system will tell you either that your application is processing or that the state has no record of your application. Once benefits start paying out, which the state said will be on a rolling basis starting in early November, you will be able to see the date the benefit was issued.

The 2021 ANCHOR benefit pays up to $1,500 to homeowners and $450 for renters. Senior homeowners and renters get an extra $250.
