An 8-year-old boy asleep in a car parked along the shoulder of the White Horse Pike in Absecon was killed early Sunday after it was struck by a passing vehicle, authorities said.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra that hit the parked car — a 25-year-old Egg Harbor City man — was driving west on Route 30 at about 3:25 a.m. when he veered off the road and crashed, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The boy, who, had been fishing with his father, died of his injuries at an area hospital officials said. The prosecutor’s office didn’t immediately explain where his father was at the time of the crash.
The Egg Harbor City man was issued several summonses but has not yet been criminally charged.
