Thin Mints Frosty

In recent years as Wendy’s has rolled out special edition flavors of their signature Frosty dessert, I’ve dutifully tried them all. The orange Dreamsicle Frosty was elite. The peppermint Frosty was a disappointment. Salted caramel? Shockingly solid.

But every time I tried one of these drive-thru desserts, I always had one thought after the last bite. None of them were as good as the original chocolate Frosty. The rich malty goodness of Dave’s OG treat was unmatched, even by my favorite special edition flavors.

That is, until Wendy’s latest seasonal offering — the Thin Mints Frosty. It took me one bite to understand that isn’t only as good as the original. It’s better. The best Frosty that Wendy’s has ever made.

A collaboration with Girl Scouts of the USA (just in time for Girl Scout cookie season) the Thin Mints Frosty is comes in both chocolate and vanilla flavors. Swirled through the Frosty base is a Thin Mint sauce with a consistency similar to cookie butter — creamy and slightly crunchy while still being soft. It’s like a frozen Thin Mint puree. And it is one of the most delicious things I have eaten at a fast food restaurant.

Thin Mints aren’t my favorite Girl Scout cookie (Samoas forever) but they’re right up there. And the chocolatey, minty cookies are even better frozen. So it only makes sense they would work well in a frozen dessert.

The Thin Mint sauce is so good I found myself licking the lid to get another taste, and it paired marvelously with the chocolate Frosty base. The whole thing felt like eating a Frosty hot fudge sundae... if the fudge wasn’t hot.

I found the vanilla flavor less successful, but that says more about vanilla Frosty base than the Thin Mint addition. It’s good, but not as tasty as the chocolate version. But regardless, you will love this if you’re a Thin Mint fan.

My biggest complaint with previous Frosty flavors was that they just tasted like flavor syrup swirled into a vanilla base. By keeping the original flavors and adding a swirl of puree, Wendy’s avoids that problem and elevates even its classic concoctions.

I was sure the original chocolate Frosty would never be topped. But the Thin Mints Frosty is simply a chocolate Frosty with a Thin Mint swirl. That addition makes it the best Frosty ever served.
