Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns missed Tuesday’s 114-102 loss to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden due to personal reasons and his status for the upcoming trip to Los Angeles is in question.
The Knicks visit LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers Thursday and Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers Friday.
“When he’s ready to come back, obviously we want him back,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said, per SNY’s Ian Begley. “But he needs some time right now.”
“Big Karl” Towns, the head coach at St. Joe’s-Metuchen where his son played, did attend the Knicks game despite his son’s absence.
Towns, a Piscataway, N.J. native and former No. 1 pick out of Kentucky, is averaging 24.5 points and 13.4 rebounds for the Knicks (40-20).
He went for 19 points and 16 rebounds in Sunday’s win in Miami.
Mitchell Robinson made his first start of the season in Towns’s place and notched 7 points and 5 rebounds. The Knicks are 2-1 since his return from ankle surgery.
The Knicks also signed MarJon Beauchamp to a Two-Way and claimed Anton Watson off waivers.
The 6-foot-7 Beauchamp, a former 1st-round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks, has career averages of 4.2 ppg and 1.9 rpg.
In other Knicks news, former Archbishop Molloy (N.Y.) and UCLA big man Moses Brown went for 26 points and 21 rebounds for the Westchester Knicks in Tuesday’s win.
