N.J. man dies from gunshot wound in apartment complex

An Atlantic County man was found dead at a South Jersey apartment complex Sunday, authorities said.

Township police were called to the Hamilton Greene Apartments off the Black Horse Pike in Hamilton for a shooting. They found Kevin Schmalz, 28, of the Mays Landing section of Hamilton, dead from a gunshot wound, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The discovery was made around 7:21 a.m. after the shooting was reported to 911, the office said. No threat to the public was identified Sunday.

The prosecutor’s office did not immediately return a request from NJ Advance Media for comment Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the prosecutor’s office’s major crimes unit at 609-909-7666. Tips can also be shared with investigators through the agency’s website.
