The only certainty around Aaron Rodgers' future is that he won’t play for the New York Jets next season. The rest? That’s up to him and the rest of the NFL.
But if one NFL star his his say, Rodgers would be the quarterback for his team. Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby said on “The Rush With Maxx” podcast on Tuesday that he expects big things from Rodgers if he returns, hopefully in the silver and black.
“The first year off of an Achilles (injury) is one of the hardest things to do,” Crosby said. “You seen it happen with Kirk. Kirk had a down year. It happened with Aaron. I mean he struggled like you said early on, but he got better as the season went. I think with all the doubt and all the negativity around Rodgers — ‘oh he needs to retire,’ things like that, he’s getting cut by the Jets. I think he’s gonna come back — I know he’s 41 or 42 — but I think he’s going to have a big year this year, and I hope it’s in our town.“
The Raiders are in desperate need of a quarterback, with lackluster options like Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, Desmond Ridder and Carter Bradley and on the roster. Last season, they went 4-13 with Minshew, O’Connell and Ridder getting starts. They have the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, which won’t guarantee them the pick of their favorite. Plus, they have a myriad of other holes.
According to ESPN, Las Vegas is “looking into” Sam Darnold, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields after failing to lure Matthew Stafford away from the Los Angeles Rams (the New York Giants also suffered the same fate).
Last season, Rodgers went 5-12 with the Jets, completing 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Las Vegas has a new general manager (John Spytek) and coach (Pete Carroll) and legendary QB Tom Brady as a minority owner.
