Person struck, killed by NJ Transit train in North Jersey

A person was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train Wednesday evening in Union County, officials said.

The person, who was not identified, was hit at the Elizabeth station at 5:31 p.m. by a North Jersey Coast Line train on its way from New York Penn Station to Bay Head, an NJ Transit spokesperson said.

The train had 1,100 passengers on it at the time of the incident, and none of them were injured, the spokesperson said.

As of 6:25 p.m., two of the four tracks in the area were open for train service.

No other details were released by the agency.
