Michael King may be commanding a giant pay day next offseason.

The Padres have looked to shed payroll this offseason, and the right-hander’s name has circulated trade rumors. Last week, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the “ultra-aggressive" San Diego general manager A.J. Preller was still listening to trade offers on King.

King, 29, is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, and his GM knows he’ll be drawing interest.

“He’s going to get paid a lot,” Preller said, via Joel Sherman of the New York Post.“He’s really good.”

King was one of the players the Yankees shipped to the Padres last winter in the seven-player blockbuster trade for superstar slugger Juan Soto. He spent three years in the Bronx as a reliever for the Yankees before his trade to San Diego, where he was transitioned into a starter.

In 33 starts for San Diego in 2024, King put up a 2.95 ERA over 173.2 innings pitched.
